Rich History, Vibrant Future.

Reimagining Cumberland’s Downtown Historic City Center

An exciting venture many years in the making, the Baltimore Street Redevelopment Project was born from the need to replace the aging infrastructure beneath Baltimore Street.

As the bricks on the Pedestrian Mall would need to be removed to address the infrastructure issues, a street plan was envisioned to concurrently reimagine the Mall by opening it up to one lane of slow-moving traffic and reconfiguring Baltimore Street into an open, safe, and multi-functional space which can be easily modified to suit the need at any given time.

After collaboration among many entities, the resulting design created a beautiful yet functional space that will transform Baltimore Street into the community’s much-used central gathering place – a place of pride and identity for residents and one of the must-see urban spaces for visitors.

The return of automobile and bicycle traffic to Baltimore Street, the replacement of aging infrastructure, and the addition of 5G internet service will add attractiveness and vibrancy to our downtown Historic City Center. The project will also serve as a catalyst for reinvestment of both businesses and upper-floor residences downtown.
